Lord, please give me a servant’s heart like Jesus.

“And because of his experience, my righteous servant will make it possible for many to be counted righteous, for he will bear their sins.”

-Isaiah 53:11

Who was the ultimate servant?

Do you desire to be more like him?

Do I desire to be a servant to others?

If I’m being honest, I often times don’t want to be a servant to others like I should.  Instead I want to be put first.  I want to make things about ME, and I want to “serve” by being a “leader”.

In Mark 9, Jesus sits with his disciples and tells them this:

“Whoever wants to be first must take last place and be the servant of everyone else.”

Okay God, so does this mean I have to serve those who are hard to love, hateful to me, and outcast by society? Yes.

Does this mean I have to be more interruptable? Definitely yes.

Does this mean I have to abandon comfortabilty? Yes.

Does this mean I have to do jobs that no one wants to do in order to uplift and put an unloved sister or brother first? Yes, this is so.

Jesus has really laid it on my heart recently to be a better servant by laying down my pride and putting the last first.

My good friend and teammate, Kelsey, is SUCH a servant for the Lord.  I see her acting like Jesus every single day, as she puts her own wants aside in order to serve others around her; I see her servant’s heart as she lays down her idols before the Lord, being pure of heart, interuptable, and joyfully kind.  This kind of love from Christ Jesus is so overflowing from within her, that I can’t help but feel called to be more like Jesus too!

There is such hope for us! While being a servant may not sound rewarding or seem rewarding in the moment, the reward for a servant is grand; you will see the Lord glorified by the fruits of your labor and be filled with endless joy and fullness.

“You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: love each other.” –John 15:16-17

  1. Your words are both convicting and encouraging! I am not a big fan of being interrupted when I have my head set on accomplishing something I think is really important but all that you have shared gives us insight into how Jesus lived and wants us to live, It has challenged me to reevaluate my attitudes and actions when I get interrupted. Thanks for your thoughtful writing.

  2. Thank you so much for your kind feedback and encouragement, Mrs. Worden! I’m so honored to serve the Lord in writing His words! I pray he is blessing you immensely, and I encourage you to follow this conviction and be more interuptable alongside me!

  3. What a blessing you can glean from each other and see Jesus working so mightily in one another. I can only imagine the fruit that is coming from how YOU also reflect Jesus so well to your team, your hosts, and all the locals you meet! 🙂
