Happy Valentine’s Day, O lover of my soul!

Lord Jesus, you are beautiful and kind!

Say you’ll be mine forever?

Thank you for loving me.

Thank you for calling me your beautiful and passionate daughter.

Thank you for knowing me as your beloved creation.

Your love for me is rich and full.

I am so in love with you.

Thank you for being my Valentine, Jesus!

Happy Valentine’s Day, y’all!

I have a confession: I’m dating someone this year–it’s Jesus.

In my life, I’ve gone through various seasons of experiencing God in different ways; I’ve seen him as a dad, as a brother, as a friend, as a protector, as a provider, and (in this season) as a husband.

Over the course of the last two months, Jesus has taken me on sweet dates, spoken truths over me about my identity, debunked lies and false narratives I once believed, and shown me that I am a beautiful treasure, a good partner, and a beloved woman.  He has told me I’m valuable (1 Corinthians 6:20), I’m beautiful (Proverbs 31:10-31, 1 Peter 3:3-4), I’m worthy (1 Corinthians 6:11), I’m creative (Exodus 35:35), I’m seen and known (Luke 12:7, 1 Corinthians 8:3), I’m forgiven (Psalm 103:12, Colossians 1:13-14), and I’m loved beyond measure (John 3:16, Ephesians 3:19).

As much as I’ve always believed myself to be a strong and independent woman, God recently opened my eyes to a lie I’ve been unknowingly believing for much of my life:

My identity and happiness comes largely from men”—from how I’ve been perceived by men, to how men in my life have depended on me, to how I’ve received false fulfillment from men over the years.

After having received the most real love of my life from Jesus, I see now more than ever how false this is; the Lord says who I am and where my worth comes from.  My whole life, I’ve experienced love that pales in comparison to the full, wholesome love of Jesus.

I’m learning what it means to love Jesus most, to know he is more than enough, and to know him deeply as the lover of my soul and as my first husband.  Each day, I get to dive deeper into learning more about the Lord’s character and heart for me; I’m learning to see myself as He sees me.

Here is the truth:

No one will ever love me like Jesus loves me.

Nothing will ever satisfy me like Jesus.

I am only complete in Jesus, and I find my true identity and happiness in Him. (Colossians 2:9-10)

I want every person to know the Lord and know his heart; may each of you know His truths over your life; may you know what He says about you.

All of these truths Jesus has spoken into me is a mere fraction of what he wants to speak into each one of us.

You are his beloved child, his beautiful spouse, and his treasured friend.

You are the love of his life and He chooses you each and every day.

You are his favorite.

How special it is that we get to sit in His presence–that we get to ask him how he sees us and knows us!

Ask him today how he sees you. Write it down. The answer will be truthful and lovely.

Holy Spirit,

May you, and you alone, sit in this space with the person reading this.  May you reveal to your beloved sons and daughters how you see them.  May Your voice, Jesus, be the only voice heard, and may Your truth be spoken over them.  I ask these things in Your name, Jesus.

*1 Corinthians 6:20: “you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body.”

*Proverbs 31:10-31: “Who can find a virtuous and capable wife? She is more precious than rubies. Her husband can trust her, and she will greatly enrich his life. She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. She finds wool and flax and busily spins it. She is like a merchant’s ship, bringing her food from afar. She gets up before dawn to prepare breakfast for her household and plan the day’s work for her servant girls. She goes to inspect a field and buys it; with her earnings she plants a vineyard. She is energetic and strong, a hard worker. She makes sure her dealings are profitable; her lamp burns late into the night. Her hands are busy spinning thread, her fingers twisting fiber. She extends a helping hand to the poor and opens her arms to the needy. She has no fear of winter for her household, for everyone has warm clothes. She makes her own bedspreads. She dresses in fine linen and purple gowns. Her husband is well known at the city gates, where he sits with the other civic leaders. She makes belted linen garments and sashes to sell to the merchants. She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future. When she speaks, her words are wise, and she gives instructions with kindness. She carefully watches everything in her household and suffers nothing from laziness. Her children stand and bless her. Her husband praises her: “There are many virtuous and capable women in the world, but you surpass them all!” Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised. Reward her for all she has done. Let her deeds publicly declare her praise.”

*1 Peter 3:3-4: “Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious.”

*1 Corinthians 6:11: “And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.”

*Exodus 35:35: “He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.”

*Luke 12:7: “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

*1 Corinthians 8:3: “but if anyone loves God, he is known by Him.”

*Psalm 103:12: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

*Coloassians 1:13-14: “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.”

*John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

*Ephesians 3:19: “May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.”

*Colossians 2:9-10: “For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.”
